For a smoke-free future: the concept of the smoking prevention program

The smoking prevention program consists of a core workshop lasting 180 minutes and shorter follow-up visits throughout the school year. The aim is to motivate pupils to lead a smoke-free life, help them overcome potential obstacles and boost their confidence in their ability to stay smoke-free.

Core program (two blocks of 90 minutes each)

  • In the first part of the core workshop, students are informed about the benefits of a smoke- and vape-free life for their health, mental well-being, the environment and fellow human beings, as well as their finances. Through an interactive presentation, the content is developed together in a fun way.
  • The smoking experiment from the “Rauchzeichen Frankfurt” program of the Deutsche Herzstiftung e.V. (German Heart Foundation) illustrates the residues of cigarette smoking in the lungs.
  • In the second half of the workshop, the pupils practise saying “no” to various smoking offers with confidence.
  • In addition, video messages and autograph pictures of young athletes and influencers are shown, who act as role models and lead a creative competition: The children are allowed to take a promotional photo in groups to “be cool and smoke-free”.

Two shorter follow-up visits to the classroom

  • The shorter follow-up visits by the nachvorn project team in class serve to keep the program - and thus the goal of a smoke-free life - present in everyday school life:
  • Again and again, the pupils reflect together on their experiences of saying “no” and dealing with peer pressure. Together, they also design advertising posters on the topic of “smoke-free living” using their own photos from the first lesson.
  • During a third visit, the students learn strategies for coping with stress and problems in a healthy way to strengthen them in their everyday lives.
